Can a WhatsApp chatbot get my number banned?
2 November 2026 · 5 min read
Fear of being banned is the first objection businesses raise. It is legitimate: some tools really do put a number at risk. Here is what makes the difference.
Unofficial tools are the real risk
Solutions based on a QR code, automated WhatsApp Web or unofficial libraries get around WhatsApp's rules. They may work for a while, then the number is blocked, sometimes with no recourse. If it is your business number, the impact is heavy.
The official API is built for this
The WhatsApp Business API is the framework Meta provides for automation. Used within its rules, it does not put your number at any particular risk.
Rules to follow, even with the API
- Only write to people who agreed, or who wrote to you first.
- Respect the 24-hour window: outside it, approved templates only.
- Honour opt-outs: a contact who writes STOP is no longer contacted.
- Do not send identical messages to very large volumes at once; increase gradually.
- Watch reports: too many customers blocking or reporting you lowers the quality of the number.
What WhatzAI does
Connection through the official API, STOP opt-out handled automatically, sending cap and speed for campaigns, and Meta-approved templates outside the 24-hour window.
